What is Life On A Star
Life On A Star (LOAS) conferences take place each August on beautiful Star Island, part of the Isles of Shoals, seven miles off the coast of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Affiliated with the Star Island Corporation, LOAS hosts two weeklong, multigenerational conferences—Life On A Star 1 and 2.
People of all ages, lifestyles, and beliefs are invited to spend a week—or even a few nights—engaged in meaningful programming, island traditions, and time to rest and renew. Each conference weaves together theme talks, workshops, worship, and evening programs balanced with opportunities to make music and art, connect with friends old and new, and relax and unwind while enjoying the island’s natural beauty.
With vibrant children’s and youth programs, volunteer leadership, and a strong sense of community, LOAS offers a rare chance to step away from everyday life and reconnect—with yourself, others, and the spirit of Star Island.
Life On A Star is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Rooted in the Unitarian Universalist tradition, LOAS warmly welcomes participants of all religious backgrounds and beliefs.
Star Island
Star Island—part of the Isles of Shoals—lies seven miles off the coasts of New Hampshire and Maine, within the traditional lands and waterways of the Abenaki, Pennacook, and other Wabanaki Peoples.
A bustling fishing port in the 1600s and a center for artists and writers in the 1800s, the island has been a retreat center affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ since 1915. Today, the nonprofit Star Island Corporation hosts all-inclusive summer programs, conferences, and retreats for people of all ages.
The Star Island website offers helpful details about staying on the island and planning your journey.
